Lattice Boom Crawler Cranes

Lattice boom crawler cranes are the largest type of mobile crane in the construction industry. They are made from steel and welded in a “W” or “V” pattern to give them strength while minimizing weight. Their tracked platform provides stability and allows them to lift more weight than wheeled cranes.

Features of the Crawler Lattice Boom Crane:

  • Lattice boom: A lightweight and long structure that gives the crane a greater reach and higher load capacity than telescopic booms.
  • Counterweights: Usually located at the rear of the crane, these weights help prevent the crane from losing control when lifting heavy loads.
  • Crawler tracks: Provide stability and mobility on different types of terrain, including soft ground. Wide tracks distribute the crane’s weight over a larger area.
  • Jib: A lattice-type structure attached to the end of the boom that is fixed in length.
  • Radio remote control: Allows a second person to control the crane’s movements from outside the cab.
  • Compact body design: Shortens the crane’s gravity center, which improves its outreach while lifting.
  • Transportability: Crawler cranes can be transported on trailers and assembled on site.
